Intelligent Design

My post today is going to be short because I read something recently that I really feel like everyone needs to read, rather than whatever I would’ve presented to you today. A lot of you have probably heard of the debate over intelligent design which is unfortunately another bitter conflict between religion and science. Well, it actually is not much of a debate since intelligent design advocates want to include the theory in scientific textbooks and study, even though it lacks any semblance of science such as fallibility, testability, or evidence.

For those of you not familiar with intelligent design, it is the idea that evolution cannot be the only answer and that the world and its beings (which science tells us evolved into their current state) actually are too logical, complex, and beautiful too have evolved, thus there must be intelligence behind their creation. It is a weak argument with no proof or scientifically valid study behind it. Rather, it represents a religious attempt to hijack science, in particular, scientific education and use it to push an agenda. Obviously, it would not make any sense to include this theory as science when students are taught that science is only that which is testable, fallible, provable, and so on, all qualities which the intelligent design theory is not.
