Books and Touch

I am conducting an interview with comic writer and artist Jeffrey Brown. In the process of this interview he mentioned that he really enjoyed the medium of comics over other formats like traditional canvas painting because of the tactile sensation of handling a book and viewing his work in book form.

When I first thought of doing The Means, I was also running a website called Invisible Summer which had switched from a randomly updated online pop culture feature site to an online issue based site. Thus, it was only natural for me to consider making The Means an online journal. There has been a definite thrust in academia towards this online format because of its accessibility and manipulability amongst other things. However, I decided against it. At the time, I considered it a decision based on wanting to create something that was legitimate, to me Invisible Summer was always doomed for illegitimacy because of its online nature, it got lost in a sea of like minded sites, all published online. By going to paper, I figured it represented an investment, a step up in quality and seriousness.
